Another 'home grown' player who rise through the ranks to become an established First Division star, Albert Cheesebrough joined the Turf Moor staff as a 15-year-old in the summer of 1950, after a series of outstanding performances as captain of his school team, Rosegrove and for representative schoolboy teams at town and county level.

Although not very tall, 'Cheesy' was stocky and powerfully built and packed a ferocious shot and his impressive form in his early days at Burnley led to schoolboy honours in 1951.

He signed professional terms on his 17th birthday and made his First Division debut three months later before notching his first senior goal against Chelsea in April 1952.

He became a regular at inside forward in the 1955/56 season and it was the start of a top quality left wing pairing with Brian Pilkington.

He was soon called up to the England under 23 squad and played against France at Bristol City's Ashton Gate in 1956.

Following the emergence of Jimmy Robson, Cheesebrough was seen as surplus to requirements and sold to Leicester City in 1959, with the Clarets on the threshold of greatness.
