Ray Deakin

Ray Deakin was the captain of the team which avoided relegation out of the Football League by winning the 'Orient Game' in 1987.
Deakin was born in Liverpool and represented England Schoolboys as a youngster before starting his career at Everton.
He never made the grade at Goodison Park though and after four years as a reserve, he joined Port Vale where he made his Football League debut against Halifax Town.
After one season with the Valiants, he joined Bolton Wanderers, where he spent three years as a first team regular in the left back spot.
He arrived at Burnley in 1985, on a free transfer and became Martin Buchan's second signing as manager at Turf Moor.
In his first two seasons at the Club, he was an ever present in the centre of defence and was appointed as Club Captain as Burnley adjusted to life in the Fourth Division, which culminated in the desperate fight against relegation in 1987.
After the 'Orient Game' Deakin became the first Clarets skipper to lead the side out at Wembley in 26 years, as Burnley faced Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Sherpa Van Trophy Final in 1988.
Deakin continued to serve the Club with distinction as a steady defender and influential captain.
He left the Club in 1991 after the Club's play-off defeat to Torquay United, having made over 200 appearances and going down as a great servant to the Clarets.
