TEN-MAN Burnley's brave second half rearguard earned a terrific point from fortress Portman Road.
The task of ending the best home record in the whole of England became mission impossible just before half time when John Spicer became the third Clarets player to be sent off in two games following a two-footed lunge.
But thanks to a magnificent defensive effort, marshalled superbly by returning captain Steven Caldwell, Owen Coyle's side showed true grit to grind out a draw.
Burnley made three changes to the side that lost 3-2 to Preston last weekend.
Skipper Caldwell returned after 10 games out with a torn tendon. There was also a first start of the season for James O'Connor in midfield, replacing the injured Alan Mahon.
And O'Connor partnered fit again Spicer, who took the place of the suspended Chris McCann.
The task facing a reshuffled Burnley was to end Town's incredible record of 10 home wins in 11 attempts.
And the hosts put their foot to the floor from the kick off.
It took just two minutes to create a golden chance when Jonathan Walters took advantage of Jon Harley's slip and hung up a cross for Alan Lee.
The ex-Burnley striker must have visualised yet another goal against his former paymasters, but Gabor Kiraly made a fine one-handed save as the unmarked Irish striker looked to direct the header goalwards from six yards.
Burnley hit straight back and in the 12th minute Kyle Lafferty was inches away from giving the Clarets the dream start.
A sweeping move ended with Spicer finding Wade Elliott and when the winger dug out a terrific cross, Lafferty's far post header back across goal and inches too high from the inrushing Andy Gray.
Tommy Miller continued the frantic start minutes later, cracking a magnificent 30-yard drive off the crossbar with Kiraly well beaten.
A cleverly worked corner routine gave Burnley the next chance as Blake, anticipating a back heel from Elliott, drilled a ball into the six yard box that was hacked clear with white shirts ready to pounce.
The pace was breathless, with Town looking particularly dangerous down both flanks.
And in the 37th minute another chance was carved out that forced Kiraly into a fine save.
Lee fed Walters overlapping down the left and when he crossed Pablo Counago's looping header back across goal forced the Clarets' Hungarian to change direction and make a terrific parry at full stretch.
Two minutes before the break, a little needle crept into the game following a clash between Alex Bruce and Blake.
And as simmering tensions mounted, Graham Alexander picked up a booking for contesting a controversial free kick - a booking that rules him out of the home game with Bristol City.
It got worse as, for the second game, Burnley found their numbers reduced. John Spicer lunged two-footed in to a challenge on Walters and Phil Dowd instantly parted the warring factions before showing the midfielder a straight red card.

John Spicer's red-card challenge
It needed another rousing half time team talk from Owen Coyle, who changed his formation to drop Blake deeper into a right-sided role, with Elliott moving infield and fill the void.
As expected, the early barrage came from the home side. But the Tractor Boys were finding it difficult to carve a path to goal in the opening ten minutes against a spirited rearguard.
A tiring Blake was finally sacrificed on the hour, with Steve Jones thrown on to offer fresh legs and a willing outlet.
But Town were now monopolising possession and forcing the Clarets further and further back, albeit without seriously troubling Kiraly.
Ade Akinbiyi was Coyle's next move, as he replaced Gray with 20 minutes remaining.
And suddenly Burnley had an attacking outlet to give Town a few problems. There were even two corners for the visitors, whose best effort was a wayward Akinbiyi effort.
Town made all three substitutes themselves to try to unlock the white wall.
But it made no difference and the Clarets stood firm to maintain Coyle's unbeaten run on the road.
