Wade Elliott's first goal of the season - a second half piledriver - catapulted Burnley right back into the play off picture.
Elliott struck in the 59th minute with a stunning strike which was enough to earn the Clarets a 1-0 win against promotion rivals Charlton Athletic.
And the result left Burnley one point off the top six and right back in the hunt for a top six spot come early May.
Boss Owen Coyle made two changes to the side which drew 1-1 at Stoke City on Saturday, with Andrew Cole recalled to the starting line up in place of Ade Akinbiyi and fit-again Alan Mahon replacing Arsenal loanee Mark Randall.
The impressive James O'Connor had Burnley's first chance of the night after just a couple of minutes, directing his header just over Nicky Weaver's goal after rising above Patrick McCarthy.
As the Clarets began on the front foot, Blake's teasing cross on 17 minutes then caused the Charlton defence all sorts of problems and McCarthy was lucky not to put through his own goal with a diving header which just cleared the crossbar.
Jerome Thomas found himself in a good position in the Burnley penalty area just a minute later as Charlton shrugged off their sluggish start, but he fired his shot well over.
Gabor Kiraly then had to be alert to stop a long-range effort from Darren Ambrose on 34 minutes before the half fizzled out in atrocious condiitons, with a howling gale and driving rain making progress difficult.
As the second half began, former Claret Andy Gray almost benefitted from a slip from Graham Alexander, but the ever-alert Clarke Carlisle was alert with a superb tackle to put the ball behind for a corner.
From the resulting set piece, Sam Sodje probably should have almost opened the scoring, but thankfully for Burnley the centre back's free header lbounced harmlessly over the angle.
Finally though, on 59 minutes, the deadlock was broken in sensational fashion.
Robbbie Blake as the architect with a cheeky nutmeg to release Elliott, who drifted in from the right wing and unleashed a howitzer that gave Nicky Weaver no chance.
It was Elliott's first goal since a similar stunner at Sunderand last April - and with just eight games left Burnley fans may not see a better strike than that again this season!

Two minutes later John Harley almost doubled the lead, but his attempt at a long-range drive skimmed Weaver's crossbar with the Addicks' keeper well beaten.
Shooting on sight was suddenly becoming Burnley's main tactic and Mahon had an effort just wide on 63 minutes before making way for John Spicer.
A neat passage of play on 72 minutes next found Lafferty in a good position in the box, but his accurate effort was well saved by Weaver as the young Northern Ireland international looked to add to the Clarets' lead.
Lafferty then fired over two minutes later as the Clarets - and in particular Blake - continued to create the best of the chances.
However, Charlton substitute Luke Varney wasted a glorious chance to get Charlton level with nine minutes remaining, somehow guiding his free header well wide of the target after a carelessly poor clearance towards his own goal by Graham Alexander.
Encouraged, Charlton continued to launch balls forward looking for their striking trio as the clock ticked down.
But the Clarets defence stood firm and Turf Moor greeted referee Phil Joslin's final whistle with a loud cheer after a nervous final few minutes.
