The Clarets had to settle for a home draw against a dangerous looking Ipswich side after battling back from a disastrous start.

Ipswich were two goals up inside nine minutes when Sylvain Legwinski and former Burnley striker Alan Lee fired the visitors ahead.

But a far post header from Kyle Lafferty on 12 minutes and a second half strike from Andy Gray were enough to secure a 2-2 draw.

However, that's only half the tale!

There was just the one change for the Clarets as John Spicer came into the side to replace Graham Alexander in midfield, who in turn replaced the injured Michael Duff in the right back berth.

Billy Clarke was the first player to threaten on five minutes but his shot from the edge of the box - after some good passing play from the visitors - was high and wide of Gabor Kiraly's goal.

Ipswich were the brighter of the two sides in the opening exchanges and won two quick corners in the first six minutes, the second of which led to the Clarets falling behind.

The corner was whipped in and former Fulham midfielder Legwinski was able to head home unmarked at the near post.

The lead was doubled on nine minutes when former Lee headed home Clarke's pin-point cross.

It was goals galore at Turf Moor.

And Lafferty got on the end of a superb Wade Elliott centre to pull one back for Burnley on 12 minutes, much to the delight of the Clarets faithful.

Both sides settled down and had the odd half chance as the Turf Moor crowd was able to catch his breath.

But Ipswich again went close with a corner after 32 minutes, when Walters headed goalwards only to see his effort tipped over by Gabor Kiraly.

Six minutes later and Tommy Miller broke into the box but Kiraly stood tall and dealt with his shot comfortably.

That was the last real action of note and the Clarets went in at the break, perhaps somewhat fortunate to be just 2-1 down.

From the restart, it was Ipswich again who looked the more creative with Walters the main source of the threat on the visitors' right.

But despite the Tractor Boys pressure it was Burnley got the next crucial goal on 60 minutes when Gray chased down a pinpoint Alan Mahon pass threaded inside the centre backs.

Town keeper Neil Alexander was clear favourite tas he raced out of his box, but his attempted clearance cannoned against Gray, who watched the ball spin high into the area before dropping perfectly into the gaping goal.

That gave the home crowd the lift they needed and with the Turf Moor faithful roaring their support, the Clarets press forward and twice went close seconds after the goal.

Lafferty and Elliott both went close with long range efforts and as the game moved into the final 20 minutes, the crowd could sense a change in the tide.

Alexander kept Town in it with a superb save on 69 minutes, getting down well to his left hand post to palm away a point blank header from the increasingly impressive Lafferty.

Blake then almost capitalised on a slip in the Town defence on 76 minutes but he screwed his shot wide.

The Clarets were getting closer and Lafferty went close twice in a minute. First he cut in side beautifully before forcing Alexander into a great save and then when the ball was pumped back into the box, he blazed over from 12 yards out.

Burnley boss Steve Cotterill threw Steve Jones into the mixer on 79 minutes in a bid to turn the Clarets posession into that all important goal.

But it was Ipswich who thought they had bagged the points on 83 minutes, when Walters broke free and slipped Pablo Counago in for the simplest of tap ins.

However, as the Ipswich players wheeled away in celebration an extremely late linesman's flag signalled a roar of relief from the Burnley crowd.

And after that late drama, neither side was able to force a winner.
