Burnley and Palace have shared a number of draws over the last decade and today was no different as the Clarets had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

It was the visitors who took the lead from Mark Hudson inside the first five minute buts the Clarets were soon level when a Robbie Blake free kick evaded everyone, despite Michael Duff claiming he got a touch.

But despite having the best of the play and the chances - and seeing Wade Elliott hit the crossbar in the 89th minute - Burnley had to be content with a point.

Steve Cotterill made four changes from the side that narrowly lost 1-0 to Premiership Portsmouth in the Carling Cup midweek with Robbie Blake, Andy Gray, Wade Elliott and Graham Alexander regaining their places.

But the Clarets found themselves 1-0 down inside five minutes when a free kick drifted in was headed home by Hudson after the Burnley defence failed to pick him up.

Scowcroft had a chance to double the visitors lead after eight minutes as the Clarets failed to settle. But thankfully Gabor Kiraly stood firm to deny the former Sheffield Wednesday man.

Burnley were level on 13 minutes when a superb 30-yard free kick whipped in by Robbie Blake bounced into the net as Michael Duff provided the distraction.

Kyle Lafferty had a decent long range effort on 18 minutes but Speroni in the Palace goal gathered at the second attempt.

The Clarets managed to find some rhythm without causing Palace any real problems but Alan Mahon tried his luck on 26 minutes but his shot from 25 yards went high and wide.

A booking for Mahon was the next incident of note on 34 minutes when the Irishman was shown a yellow rather harshly for a challenge just seconds after Fletcher appeared to throttle Wade Elliott.

There was more bad news for the Clarets just seconds later when Michael Duff hobbled off after what looked to be an inocuous challenge to be replaced by John Spicer. That move prompted a reshuffle for Cotterill who moved Graham Alexander to the right back berth with Spicer joining Mahon in the centre.

The Clarets almost took the lead as the game moved into first time injury time when a superb cross from Robbie Blake was nicked off the head of Wade Elliott by Speroni.

And Lafferty went even closer with another long range effort. His curling shot from 25 yards was his third of the afternoon and the closest effort of the lot.

Dickov broke clear of the Burnley defence only to be stopped by Kiraly and the follow up effort by Scowcroft was headed off the line by Clarke Carlisle with the Burnley keeper stranded.

There was a moment of worry for Palace as Dickov stayed down for a couple of minutes after clattering into Kiraly. But thankfully the former Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers forward got to his feet with the paramedics on stand by.

Burnley looked to start the second half brighter than the first and Andy Gray did well to turn and shoot on the edge of the 18 yard box but his shot was well saved by the Palace keeper.

Alan Mahon stung the finger tips of Speroni with a 25 yard effort just seconds later as the Clarets looked to get their noses in front.

Wade Elliott slotted a ball through for Robbie Blake on 50 minutes but as Blake turned back inside he showed too much of the ball to Cort who was able to clear.

Palace were the next to go close when Ben Watson fired wide of Kiraly's goal after a sloppy ball out from the Burnley defence.

Referee Trevor Kettle again wound up the Clarets foul by awarding a free kick on the edge of the area to the visitors after Dickov went down a good three seconds after being challenged.
But thankfully the free kick was fired over.

Blakes quick free kick a couple of seconds later was fire over by Andy Gray from just two yards out after the former Sunderland man did well to get himself in front of the defender.
With 20 minutes to go, Clarets boss Steve Cotterill juggled his pack and threw on Ade Akinbiyi and Steve Jones for Lafferty and Gray.

Robbie Blake weaved his way inside and did the hard part by getting past three defenders. But as he was stumbling on the edge of his box, his shot went just wide fo the upright.

He tried his luck again a minute later but his volley was comfortably taken by Speroni.

On 78 minutes Robbie Blake again went close but his swirling effort from 25 yards went just over the Palace bar as the Clarets looked to turn their efforts into a well-deserved goal.

Burnley continued to press but got very little from the Palace defence or referee Trevor Kettle who infuriated the Turf Moor crowd all afternoon with some shocking decisions against the Clarets.

The Clarets almost grabbed the lead with just two minutes remaining but Wade Elliots superb shot from the edge of the area cannoned back off the back.

That was the last action of the game and the Clarets were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw despite pressing the visitors well for much of the match
