Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday fought out a battling draw in a Turf Moor thriller.
The Clarets grabbed the all-important advantage 10 minutes into the second half when Wade Elliott fired Steve Cotterill's side ahead.
But crucially the Owls hit back immediately as Deon Burton headed home from close range to earn Brian Laws' side a share of the spoils.
Steven Caldwell made his home debut as captain as the Clarets look to get back to winning ways, Michael Duff sliding out to right back to accommodate the former Sunderland skipper.
And with Elliott returning to the starting line up alongside Joey Gudjonsson in midfield, it was an attacking line-up for the Clarets against a side bereft of confidence following five straight defeats.
The spearhead of the attack was Andy Gray, starting a game for the first time since suffering his broken foot in late November.
But it was strike partner Ade Akinbiyi who had the first chance in the sixth minute, heading tamely at Mark Crossley after Elliott had put a dangerous ball into the mix.
Steve Jones mis-kicked moments later when Akinbiyi and Elliott combined to set up the far post chance.
Referee Nigel Miller missed a blatant hand ball by Burton as the Owls launched their first attack. However, John McGreal's headed goal line clearance saved the man in black's blushes.
In the 23rd minute, visiting goalkeeper Mark Crossley was almost left red-faced when Gudjonsson's wickedly dipping corner smacked the crossbar at the far post.
But opposite number Danny Coyne was on top of his game three minutes later to keep the Clarets level with a superb save. Burton spun cleverly in the box to create room and looked to find the bottom corner with a precise left-foot drive, only to see the Welsh number one fling himself to his right to turn the ball around the post.
The game was now in full flow and Burnley, now an incredible 52 games without a penalty, should finally have had long overdue luck on their side 11 minutes before the break.
New Owls signing Lee Bullen clearly handled the ball in the area under pressure from Akinbiyi, but frustratingly Mr Miller waved play on and the spot kick drought continued.
The pendulum swung immediately back to the visitors and Coyne again showed his agility to block Tommy Spurr's close range effort as a corner evaded everyone to the far post.
Brunt's controversial free kick was soon deflected inches wide by the wall as Wednesday sensed blood.
But Burnley bounced back as half time approached and Akinbiyi showed power and persistence to shrug off the defensive shackles and force a fine save from Crossley with a low, rasping drive that was sneaking just inside the post.
Half time arrived with an entertaining game somehow still goalless. But ten minutes into the second half the deadlock was finally broken.
Gray won a loose header and Akinbiyi's second flick-on freed Elliott, whose drilled shot went straight through Crossley and bounced into the net as the veteran keeper tried to recover the situation.
However, the lead lasted just three minutes as Burton stole in to head home from close range from a right wing corner.
If Burnley were rocked, they didn't show it and Gray and Elliott both spurned chances by firing weakly at Crossley.
Gray also failed to capitalise when Akinbiyi challenged Crossley and the goalkeeper dropped the ball at the feet of the 10-goal striker, who hooked the ball agonisingly over the bar at full stretch from six yards out.
Wednesday debutant Watson was even closer midway through the half when he scorched a half-volley inches wide with Coyne well beaten.
Coyne then saved well from Wade Small's deflected shot before, seconds later, an inadvertent John McGreal flick wrong-footed the Burnley number one. Thankfully though, the outside of the post came to Burnley's rescue.
The pace was now frantic once again and with 15 minutes remaining, Steve Cotterill rolled the dice to make a double substitution. Eric Djemba-Djemba and Kyle Lafferty replaced Gudjonsson and Gray respectively.
Chris McCann was introduced for Jones as the clock continued to tick down to a draw.
And Burnley's last chance for glory came and went in a frantic finale when Crossley smuggled Elliott's far post snapshot for a corner.
