The Clarets couldn't get back into form on their first trip to the Ricoh Arena, as a single goal in the second half saw Coventry City take all three points.

Despite the home side enjoying a sustained spell of second half pressure, Burnley had their chances and on another day could have been leaving the West Midlands with at least a point.

It was Burnley who created the first opening of the game too, when Micah Hyde lifted a ball over the top for Graham Branch on the left. He played a pass inside for the on-running Chris McCann and when he struck a low left footer at goal, City keeper Marton Fulop had to make a good save to keep the shot out.

McCann then turned provider for Branch after 10 minutes, when he neatly laid the ball off in the area for his team-mate whose side footed shot went wide of the post.

At the other end, a break on the left saw Dele Adebola cross back into the area for Andy Morrell, but his shot was bravely blocked by Jon Harley and behind for a corner.

Michael Duff then had to make a vital last minute tackle just inside the area to rob Stern John of a shooting chance after a ball was rolled in behind the defence.

The Clarets were forced into a switch after 38 minutes, when Branch had to be replaced by Danny Karbassiyoon with what appeared to be a leg strain of some description.

Burnley forced Fulop into another save just before the break, when a flowing move ended with Wade Elliott attacking from his position at right-back. He cut inside and hit a left footed shot, but the Hungarian keeper had time to see it and make a save.

Coventry edged in front just before the hour mark though, following a spell of sustained pressure and with the Clarets penned inside their own half.

The chance was created from the left, where John managed to cross and Jamie Scowcroft flicked on to the far post for Adebola who poked a shot home from close range.

Scowcroft could have added another in the 64th minute when he picked the ball up inside the Burnley box. He lined up a shot, but James O'Connor managed to get a block in and divert the attempt wide of goal.

Brian Jensen had to make a fine double save on the hour mark, firstly to turn Adebola's shot away after he had nicked the ball off Frank Sinclair and then to block Scowcroft's follow-up on the line before Spicer cleared the danger.

John then beat Elliott on the left before rolling a cross into the danger zone, where no-one in Sky Blue was able to touch home.

Jensen kept the Clarets in it again in the 70th minute, when Scowcroft planted a header from Dennis Wise's corner against the post. It bounced back out to the same man who turned the ball back towards goal only to find the Danish stopper had recovered well and positioned himself to scramble the ball away from the danger zone.

In response, Steve Cotterill brought both Kyle Lafferty and Gifton Noel Williams on to join Michael Ricketts in attack with Spicer reverting to right-back.

It did have an affect too, as Burnley began to push on their hosts more and more as the game drew on, with both Karbassiyoon and Lafferty trying their luck with shots but unfortunately they couldn't hit the target.

A further half chance fell to Ricketts in the box after a ball in from the right, but after controlling it well he couldn't swivel quickly enough to power the ball home from close range and Fulop saved his attempt.

There were shouts against Fulop in the 89th minute, when he appeared to handle outside his area as he collected a through ball from Harley which Noel-Williams had chased down.

Coventry made a couple of late substitutions to try and whittle away the four minutes of added time, as Burnley chased a later equaliser and they almost found it when Sinclair hit a dipping half volley from the edge of the area after a corner was cleared. Unfortunately, the effort dropped just over the bar.

Moments later, the final whistle sounded to bring proceedings to an end and leave the Clarets without a point in three games.
