Garreth O'Connor.
Burnley's recent winning run on the road was brought to an end at Selhurst Park, as Crystal Palace won their first home game against the Clarets for 22 years.

It was 1983 when the Eagles last beat Burnley at their south London home, but goals from Clinton Morrison and substitute Dougie Freedman brought that run to an end for Iain Dowie's men.

Whilst Palace expectedly had the better of the possession, Burnley certainly had their chances and keeper Gabor Kiraly made a string of saves to keep the Clarets at bay with Garreth O'Connor in particular having an ongoing battle with the Hungarian international.

Burnley's first chance came in the 18th minute, when a sloppy back pass from Emmerson Boyce went straight to Ade Akinbiyi. He ran into the box, but both Fitz Hall and Darren Ward forced him wider than he would've liked and Ward made a good block on Akinbiyi's eventual left foot shot.

Prior to that, Palace had enjoyed the better of the play but Brian Jensen was largely untested in goal with Morrison shooting over twice and Boyce seeing a header caught easily by the Dane.

Ben Watson tried his luck in the 20th minute with a curling shot, but Jensen saw it all the way and made an easy save.

Jensen had to make a better save in the 21st minute, when James O'Connor was tackled on the edge of his own area by Tom Soares and Morrison's shot on the turn brought the best out of the 'Beast' as Palace began to exert some pressure.

The impressive Marco Reich then fired a shot at goal from the left hand side of the box and again Jensen had to be on his toes to make a sound save low to his right.

At the other end, Garreth O'Connor was picked out well by Akinbiyi in the Palace half and after advancing to the edge of the area, forced Kiraly into a good save on his near post with a powerful, low shot.

O'Connor then had another go in the 32nd minute when he struck a volley from Akinbiyi's knock down, which flew wide of the target.

For the third time in five minutes, the same combination again ended in O'Connor trying his luck from the edge of the area with Kiraly again saving.

Kiraly again denied the Clarets in the 36th minute, when a well worked free kick saw Jon Harley curl a shot at goal which the Hungarian did extremely well to save with one hand.

Moments later, Palace took the lead when Reich's excellent cross from the left was headed back into the six yard box by Jobi McAnuff and Morrison was there to head home from close range despite appeals for offside from the Clarets.

Akinbiyi immediately tried to get Burnley back on level terms and an acrobatic overhead kick went just wide after his earlier shot had been blocked by Ward in the 39th minute.

With half time just a minute away, John McGreal had to make an inch perfect tackle in the box to rob Dougie Freedman in the box, after the substitute had broken through the middle.

Freedman had another good chance with 10 minutes of the second half elapsed, when Danny Butterfield's corner was punched out as far as the Scot, whose header went over the bar.

McGreal had an opportunist strike at goal soon after when he controlled the ball well on the half way line before things opened up for him and he was allowed a shot. Unfortunately, it bounced just wide.

Harley then tested Kiraly again with a powerful strike after being set up by Akinbiyi, but his shot was straight at the Palace keeper so he was able to save.

Garreth O'Connor continued his personal battle with Kiraly and another shot was well dealt with after a quickly taken free kick from Harley.

Wade Elliott then beat his man on the right before playing a cross to the far post where O'Connor volleyed wide.

Akinbiyi then headed inches wide, when Garreth O'Connor set Duff up for a good cross from the right. If the ball had been just the other side of the post, Kiraly could have been struggling to get there.

Substitute Gifton Noel Williams then spun and fired in a left foot shot which was saved by Kiraly after the keeper had previously given the ball away to O'Connor.

The points were all but secured in the 77th minute though, when Jensen's good save from Wayne Andrews fell back to Morrison. He held the ball before rolling it to Freedman and he made no mistake from six yards by blasting home into the roof of the net.

Freedman should have had a second moments later, when he took advantage of a rare lapse from Frank Sinclair to break clear but his left footer rolled wide of the far post.

It became obvious that it was Palace's day with just five miniutes left, when Micah Hyde's shot from the edge of the box was flicked goalwards by Akinbiyi but after hitting the base of the post, it bounced back to the safety of the fortunate Kiraly.

That proved to be the last of the action and after three minutes of added time, the game was brought to a close.
