Sandy Stewart remains hopeful that the Clarets can add some new faces to their squad over the next few weeks.

And despite there as yet being no new summer arrivals at Turf Moor, Burnley's assistant manager admits all parties are working hard in an effort to secure signatures.

"Just because we haven't signed anybody yet doesn't mean we are not trying. We are trying our absolute hardest to being the players we want to Burnley Football Club," insisted Stewart.

"We'll get the players that we want to bring in and that's why it takes time. If we were going for players that nobody else wanted, it would not be a problem, but those players are not going to help the team.

"Anything can happen at any time. We can wait weeks and weeks for something to happen, and yet just one phone call can change all that. That's football."

With the new fixture list released on Monday morning, anticipation ahead of the new season is growing and Stewart admits the club would ideally of liked to have had some new players in the bag by now, but he revealed patience is a virtue, particularly when it comes to signing players.

"We would like to have had the players in. That's why we put our bids in early in the close season. But when you are negotiating with other clubs, these things understandably take time," added Stewart.

"The supporters just need to be a wee bit patient. We are only in the second week of June - there is still a long way to go before we bring the players back for pre-season."
