Forward Jay Rodriguez has spoken of his delight after signing a new contract at Turf Moor.

The Burnley born 18 year-old has agreed a two-year deal as manager Owen Coyle establishes the foundations of a young squad after also acquring the signatures of apprentices Alex MacDonald and Adam Kay.

Rodriguez, who has progressed through the club's youth ranks went on loan to Scottish first division side Stirling Albion in January and he believes that his time north of the border should stand him in good stead as he looks to break into the Clarets' first team.

"I'm really happy to have signed my new deal. It's like a dream come true," said Rodriguez.

''I really enjoyed my time in Scotland and it was a great experience for me which will hopefully help me progress at Burnley and become a better player.

''Pre-season will soon come around and I'm really looking forward to getting it underway.

"We've got a good squad and we're going to give it a good go next season.''

And boss Owen Coyle who has stowed much faith in Rodriguez was also happy with the teenager's decision.

''I'm delighted to get Jay signed up on a new deal so he can continue his development.'' added Coyle.

''I feel he has a chance but ultimately it is up to him to come back in pre-season and prove that he can get in the first team.''

Burnley are still waiting to hear from both David Unsworth and James O'Conner who have yet to put pen to paper.
